If you want to glorify God with your life then do this one thing.
John 15:4-5 ESV [4] Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. [5] I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:8 ESV [8] By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
By this my father is glorified, that you bear much fruit. One would think that the one thing is to bear much fruit. In this passage Jesus tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing. He is essentially saying we cannot bear fruit apart from Him.
The one thing we are to do is to abide. We bear fruit only by abiding / remaining in Jesus the true vine. How do we abide? How do we stay connected? How do we get the life giving sap from the vine that allows us to bear much fruit? It is only by being connected to the vine through prayer and God’s word. This is our work that leads to bearing much fruit that leads to glorifying God with our lives.
For apart from Him we can do nothing.
Our greatest work as a follower of Jesus is to know Him more and spend time with Him through His word and in prayer.
Take time daily to spend in prayer and in God’s word. It is essential in the effort to glorify God with our lives.
