Honduras Devotional 3/15
And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."
Luke 8:43‭-‬44‭, ‬48 ESV
1. There are many people in this world that just need to touch Jesus. This woman was desperate for Jesus to heal her. What is interesting about this woman is her timid way of getting to Jesus. She almost acted ashamed and maybe she was. Many people are hurting do not feel worthy to come to Jesus in a very public way. This lady wanted to be healed and did not really want anyone to notice. We need to be aware that people are hurting and that there are people who need Jesus but feel shame or not worthy. Jesus called her daughter, she is now a child of the Creator of the universe. She has no reason to be ashamed as a child of God.
2. Jesus is not like other people in that he was aware of this woman and that she was around. He really did not need to ask who touched him but he did.
And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed.
Luke 8:47 ESV
She was scared to approach Jesus or to be called out. This lady spent her life being told she was unclean and by the law she was supposed to tell people she was around that she was unclean. Imagine spending your life feeling unclean. This is why she hid when she touched Jesus. An unclean person was not supposed touch another person because it would make that person unclean. Jesus was not like other people, He became unclean so that we could become clean. There is nobody that thinks they are unclean that Jesus cannot make clean. No one is to far from the love and compassion of Jesus.
